BIO
April Dawes was born and raised in Central Oklahoma. She attended the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute in 1995 and went on to study painting at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma; receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis is in oil painting and graphic design in 1999. She worked as a graphic designer in the commercial industry and as a commission artist for several years. However, between the years of 2003 and 2015, her concentration shifted from creating to mothering and then eventually homeschooling her 3 children. Although art was not the primary focus for her during this time, it was never far from her thoughts.
In 2016, April returned to painting and has since pursued her art career with a renewed sense of purpose and passion. Currently a full-time studio artist, she spends most of her time painting in her small backyard studio. April currently resides in Stillwater, Oklahoma with her wonderful and supportive husband, 3 amazing kids and their 2 dogs. When not painting, April enjoys teaching, traveling, hiking and running with her dogs, and spending time with family.
